BOTOX For Sweating

Botox® injections for underarm sweating is a simple, quick, non-surgical physician administered treatment that can temporarily stop or reduce severe underarm sweating for 6-9 months.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved BOTOX® for the treatment of severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) in patients unable to obtain relief using antiperspirants on July 19, 2004. BOTOX® injections offer a minimally invasive treatment option and should be repeated as necessary to control symptoms. It is quite safe and yields predictable improvement for at least 6-9 months.

Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by excessive and uncontrollable sweating beyond that required for regulation of the body temperature. Primary hyperhidrosis is estimated at around 1% of the population, afflicting men and women equally. That number, however, does not reflect the true number of cases since the condition is not always diagnosed.

A common complaint of patients is that they get nervous because they sweat, then sweat more because they are nervous. Other factors can play a role; certain foods & drinks, nicotine, caffeine, and smells can trigger a response.

Botulinum toxin temporarily blocks the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don’t receive chemical signals, the severe sweating stops for 6-9 months and sometimes longer, and helps you regain a normal life, free of the stress and anxiety associated with excessive sweating.
