The Doctor WHO Cares!

As I prepared to walk into what appeared to be your basic office building, anxiety and trepidation over the thought of having surgery, fought to overwhelm me. Reigning in my senses, I proceed to walk into the building at 4730 South Fort Apache Road off Tropicana and the 215. I ride the elevator to the 3rd floor and walk into Suite 390. There is a plaque on the door inscribed Dr. Degen, Red Rock Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Centre, I am in the right place.  As I walk through the door I quickly realize this isn’t your ordinary Oral Surgery office that’s clinical, intimidating and unfriendly. I take a deep breath and I feel better. The view is spectacular and I am in New Orleans’ French quarter with brick walls, famous street signs and wrought iron doors.  This is where Dr. Degen was accepted into the prestigious six year combined M.D./Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency training program at Louisiana State University in New Orleans.  He earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree and completed his surgical residency in 2003 before relocating to Las Vegas and bringing a bit of the “Big Easy” with him.

Mark I. Degen, D.D.S., M.D. is a native New Yorker who grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from the Yeshivah of Flatbush in 1989 and continued his education at New York University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Psychology in 1993. Dr. Degen then graduated with honors from the New York University College of Dentistry, receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree in 1997, but the Dr. Degen I met folded all that education and know-how into a southern-genteel approach. His quick wit puts his patients at ease.  The additional six years of schooling after attending dental school is where he earned his M.D. degree and received significant surgical training in the treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving the mouth, the jaws and the face.  Wow, a doctor with brains and personality.  19 year old Nick Bembenek had the pleasure of having all four of his wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Degen.  “Dr. D is the bomb! I was up and attending my brother’s award ceremony 8 hours later; no one could believe I had just had surgery.  I told them it was because I went to the best.”

Dr. Degen has been providing outstanding patient care to Las Vegas since 2003. He demonstrates great skill and proficiency in removing impacted wisdom teeth, placing dental implants under IV anesthesia and performing cosmetic enhancement procedures, including microdermabrasion, Botox  and the use of dermal fillers such as Juvederm. “We believe our patients deserve the best,” stated Dr. Degen. “When you see our certificate of accreditation, you will know that AAAHC (www.aaahc.org), an independent, not-for-profit organization, has closely examined our facility and procedures. It means we as an organization care enough about our patients to strive for the highest level of care possible.” Not all ambulatory health care organizations, including dental and other oral & maxillofacial surgery offices, seek accreditation and not all that undergo the rigorous on-site survey process are granted accreditation, distinguishing Dr. Degen’s office from many other outpatient facilities.  To ensure that patients receive the highest quality of care Dr. Degen keeps up with the latest information, advanced medical and surgical techniques and employs the latest technologies to make every visit efficient and convenient for patients.

Dr. Degen is a very personable and skilled practitioner. He has a deep respect for his patients and their concerns, to which he listens carefully. Dr. Degen then applies his medical, dental and surgical education along with his years of experience to tailor an appropriate and suitable treatment plan that is intended to result in the best possible outcome for each patient.

“Delivering outstanding oral and maxillofacial surgery to the community and exceeding patients’ expectations is my primary goal.  What I enjoy most about my day is spending time getting to know my patients” says Dr. Degen earnestly.  “I’m taking care of great people and they’re sending me their great family and friends”.  He and his wife chose Las Vegas as their home, the place where they would raise their children, who attend Adelson. Dr. Degen and his wife are also members of Temple Sinai. Giving back to the community is extremely important, which is the reason Dr. Degen donates a portion of his time to provide oral surgery to breast cancer survivors through a local foundation and participates in programs offering patient incentives were a portion of the proceeds are donated to charity.  You may also find Dr. Degen ballroom dancing with his wife or playing the guitar and rocking out!
